INNOVATION AND COLLABORATION
NORTHERN EXPOSURE is an initiative dedicated to the idea that innovation is born from investigations and exchanges in multiple geographies. These enquires provide opportunities to unpack and reformulate preconceived notions and practices associated with our areas of focus, Conservation, Food, Architecture, Design and Art.
Our creative incubator and multi-disciplinary collective encourages practitioners from spheres from around the world to collaborate, participate and engage, with the intention of embracing incidental discoveries in order to create and present new and experimental theories and practices.
The initiative’s primary concern is the sharing and application of these innovations in new working contexts, with the objective of cultivating entrepreneurship and meaningful sustainable empowerment for local communities.
RESDIENCY PROGRAMME
In 2022, NORTHERN EXPOSURE launched an international residency program. This residency programme offers a unique opportunity for artistic development, international cross-boundary interaction and the exchange of knowledge.
Through this program, resident artists gain fresh perspectives, specific cross-cultural insights between Europe and South Africa, and inspiration that fuel their creative growth. We aim to foster collaboration with fellow artists from different backgrounds, fostering creative provocations and exchanges of ideas and techniques, while also providing access to new materials, landscapes, and artistic influences. This exposure not only enhances their creative practice but also facilitates the establishment of global social networks and the potential for their work to reach a broader international audience,.
The initiative's fifth residency has been awarded to Swedish artist Daniel Wester, whose innovations in carving have received critical international recognition. Daniel Wester's exhibition, 'TRYING TO LEAVE', introduces new works in wood and premieres on July 12.
NORTHERN EXPOSURE will open every Saturday and Sunday through September 1, from 12:00-5:00 p.m., or during the week by appointment only.
We accept proposals from artist colleagues, curators, critics and other agents in the fields of art and design.
PARTNERS AND SUPPORTERS
We are also actively seeking long-term public and private partners and supporters to sustain the initiative’s goals.
